Award Winning photo featured in Business Insider.

Naturally formed glacier ice cave in Jasper National Park.

Hooray!

Last years winter road trip trough the Canadian Rockies is the gift that keeps on giving!
One of my photos of the Athabasca Glacier got selected as one of 14 winners
in a Eyeem photo competition.
The winning images recieved hot press worldwide and one of the major
news outlets was the prestigious Business insider.
With the number of competing images totalling over 44.000, all from a VERY talented
community being selected as one of the winners was very humbling.

Location:

The cave is located along the icefields parkway between the towns of Jasper and Banff.
You stop at The Columbia Icefields, then after that its a VERY windy and cold walk.
(Assuming you are going there in the winter.)
This part of the glacier is called the Athabasca Glacier.

Can you still go there?

A couple of weeks ago we were in that same area and we heard that the glacier cave had now fully collapsed.
Naturally we had to venture out there and see it for ourselves.
Sadly only a year of additional weathering was more than enough to make it cave in,
but not entirely unexpected since this glacier has been retreating for a very long time.
